Design and implementation of non-contact radar module for biomedical applications.
The project focus on a long-term care application for the future development of government. Thus, a pulse-based ultra-wideband (UWB) radar with the characteristics of real-time, and non-contact monitoring to obtain physiological information from a subject. In addition, we further analyze and distinguish the vital-sign signals by the proposed algorithm to improve its sensitivity and build up the long-term care institute. For different kind of breathing situations, the related database is also developed for the sensing circuit module and monitoring system to verify its feasibility.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common psychiatric disorders among children and adolescents. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in the process of RNA silencing and the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, and miRNAs may play an important role in neurodevelopment. The next-generation sequencing (NGS) technique was used to identify 13 miRNAs as potential ADHD biomarkers. The ΔCt values of these miRNAs were integrated to create a biomarker model using the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm, which demonstrated good validity in differentiating ADHD patients from control subjects (sensitivity: 96%, specificity: 94.2%). Our basic studies also provide physiological evidence to support that our miRNA biomarkers potentially affect neurodevelopment and brain structure.
As measured in peripheral blood, miRNA-based biomarkers can aid in the differentiation of ADHD in clinical settings. We have developed a pioneer model of molecular diagnosis for detecting ADHD through the use of combinations of multiple miRNA expressions for assisting clinical diagnosis. This invention was awarded in the 2020 National Innovation Award, and has obtained the certification of patents in Taiwan (I690595) and in Europe (No.3369829). Therefore, our invention is accurate, fast, and convenient, and has a wide range of needs and a high degree of clinical practicality.

The first optical device for identify Kawasaki disease and/or multiple system inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C, that is caused by COVID-19) will help to save the children's heart from damage and prevent long time sequel. Near-infrared diffuse optical technique, which is a noninvasive method for monitoring changes in hemoglobin concentrations, relative oxyhemoglobin (HbO2), deoxyhemoglobin (Hb), total hemoglobin (HbT), and H2O concentrations, and tissue oxygen saturation (StO2). Artificial intelligence with optical device calculate the result within just one second and without any blood drawing or any tissue samples needed. It is totally a non-invasive detection device with high accuracy and convenience for clinician at medical department or parents at home. Coronary artery lesions and heart injury are the most severe complications of Kawasaki disease and MIS-C. This optical device will help to survey any children with fever more than 4 days especial in the COVID-19 pandemic area to prevent heart injury.
