TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The future of health was on display at the 2018 Taiwan Healthcare Expo+ in Taipei on Nov. 30, where innovation, emerging technology, and fresh approaches to wellbeing were on display.

World leaders in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and health management were also in attendance for the expo, and a host of conferences held on the sidelines.

The 2018 Taiwan Healthcare+ Expo focuses on medicine, health, and care fields, and it is the premier platform for Taiwan’s burgeoning biotechnology industry. The event will be held at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center from Nov. 29 to Dec. 2.

This year’s expo has three themes: efficient, smart, and innovative healthcare. The event features over 1,300 booths promoting products and services from 51 nations, and dozens of conferences and seminars on the sidelines.

The Global Innovation Pavilion showcased some of the world’s best ideas in medicine and healthcare, with representatives from six countries on display. This area was a popular place for public presentations, and also showcased award-winning innovations.

Medical innovation in the form of 3D printed medical devices and other adaptions of emerging technology were prominently displayed by a host of researchers and companies.

The event also took a more holistic approach to health than last year, with more companies showcasing healthy foods and natural remedies. The Taiwan Agricultural Health Pavilion was the frontrunner in this space, and staff reported interest from both Taiwan and abroad.

Taiwan’s Redox Medicare were popularly received today, with their vitamin products drawing strong interest.

Research and new technology supported by the Taiwan government was in full force, with large booths informing the world of the good work done by Academia Sinica, the Industrial Technology Research Institute, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the National Applied Research Laboratories, among others.

Taiwanese universities were heavily represented, showcasing a range of products, services, and techniques including precision medicine, smart hospitals, advanced and preventative care, and innovative applications of new technology like AI and Internet of Things.

Within the Expo, the Med X Tech Summit was held with international and interdisciplinary experts on Nov. 29-30.

The summit included a CEO power-panel discussing international healthcare opportunities, as well as other panels discussing healthcare innovation, personalized care, and emerging medical technologies, among other topics.

Speakers of international note included David Hansen, CEO of Australia’s CSIRO; Emma Hassack, CEO of Extensia; Eunice Chiu, VP of Sales and Marketing at Nvidia Taiwan; Hsien-Hui Tong, Head of Venture Investing at SGInnovate; and Tony J Wang, Co-Director of Columbia University’s Center for Radiosurgery;

Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) spoke at the opening ceremony of the expo on Nov. 29, and said Taiwan is the best place for medical innovation due its top-tier medical technology, supply chain strengths, and burgeoning biotechnology industry, reported CNA.
