《Meet Taiwan》Taiwan Healthcare+ Expo Unveiled with Three Highlights

Taiwan Healthcare+ Expo, the world's first exhibition based on medical technology, was grandly held from November 29 to December 2, 2018, at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. More than 415 of Taiwan’s hospitals and companies, as well as more than 51 overseas enterprises, participated in this event, spanning over 1,358 booths in total.

Nearly all of Taiwan's medical centers and regional hospitals attended this event, indicating a breakthrough in the entire Taiwan healthcare sector. A Featured Medical Center Pavilion staged the latest medical services and cutting-edge medical technology, with over 70 hospitals participating. In addition, the MEDTEX Summit featured 35 world-class guest speakers, while the Train the Trainer Pavilion showcased international training achievements for microscopic reconstruction, with 50 teaching physicians who received training in Taiwan. The Innozone Pavilion attracted over 100 startup teams from Israel, Australia, Singapore, and Thailand, as well as representatives from Microsoft and IBM, to show off their innovations. In addition, more than 25 international trade groups were invited to participate and negotiate during Taiwan Healthcare+ Expo 2018.

Mr. Jia-Chyuan Su, Expo Chairman and President of Taiwan's Legislative Yuan, expressed that Taiwan has become globally known for its medical system, techniques, and technologies. Based on such an excellent infrastructure, the Taiwan Healthcare+ Expo was formed to enable the public and professionals from both home and abroad to visit and exchange with each other. Since 2017, the first hospital-oriented Taiwan Healthcare+ Expo has brought related industries together for information and the latest developments in medical instruments and technologies. Compared to last year's event, the 2018 Expo expanded in scale, with booths increasing in number from 1,050 to 1,358, up 30%. The event not only featured Taiwan's medical industry, it also promoted the development of related industries in line with government policies.

Dr. Wei-Chao Chen, a founder of the Healthcare Promotion Committee, expressed that the Taiwan Healthcare+ Expo was first held in 2017 to integrate all of Taiwan's healthcare and technology capacity and potential, presenting the prospect of a big health care industry. This event has become a platform of cooperation and exchange for people from all walks of life. He stated that healthcare functions as a locomotive for bio-medical industry development. Being an engine for development of the bio-medical industry is a significant aspect of this exhibition that presents the latest medical technology applications to people, while driving industry development.

Ms. Yi-Hua Chang, Deputy CEO of the Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry, expressed that there were some must-see spotlights at the Expo: First was the Featured Health Center Pavilion that presented hospital innovation's of soft power plus technological hard power. For example, the Taipei Medical University and IBM Watson Health jointly showcased an application that combined an AI-assisted cancer treatment system and tumor gene detection. In addition, a joint effort involving China Medical University Hospital, Ever Fortune.AI, NVIDIA, Ever Health, Ever Young, and Ever Supreme Bio Technology accelerated the upgrade of precision medicine. Tzu Chi, Brain Navi Biotechnology, GWOXI, Sharp Point, and StemCyte also jointly staged their exhibits. In addition, Show Chwan, Taipei City Hospital, Changhua Christian Hospital, Chung Shan Medical University Hospital, and other exhibitors showcased their smart hospital achievements.

A second must-see spotlight was the Train the Trainer Pavilion. Here visitors were able to see Taiwan’s major influences on the worldwide healthcare industry, and featured presentations by the Chairman and Secretary General of the World Medical Association, Former Chairman of the American College of Physicians, and other 50 international physicians.
