Developed an algae dressing with anti-radiation induced skin fibrosis

2019-10-24

The skin is the first layer of radiation exposed to the tissues and organs during radiotherapy. It usually causes skin inflammation and infection in the early stage. Long-term treatment can promote the loss of skin flexibility and extensibility caused by fibrosis. When the irradiation range is extended to the neck, fibrosis of the neck is also generated, resulting in a smaller angle of rotation of the neck, resulting in many inconveniences in life.

The gel dressing material developed by the technology is composed of an algae extract (Low molecular weight Fucoidan) as a main material, and the gel form as a coatable soft material. In the animal mode, it can inhibit the skin inflammation and skin fibrosis caused by radiotherapy.
