New Stone treatment solution - Disposable flexible ureteroscopy

2020-09-22

There are three ways for urinary calculi treatment, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), percutaneous kidney lithotripsy (PCNL) and retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS). ESWL is a minimally invasive treatment with limited effect; PCNL is traumatic, painful, and with high risk of massive bleeding, it is only used for the treatment of huge stones and the rescue for failure of stone treatment. RIRS is recognized as the future trend in the treatment of urinary calculi. The flexible ureteroscopy is through the urethra and ureter and go into the kidney for stone fragmentation with high power laser and take them out with basket.

The disposable flexible ureteroscopy used in our hospital is an American brand OTU. Its image quality, bending angle and tube diameter are good as the reusable flexible ureteroscopy, and it is for one time use without infection. It can also be used in Urothelial carcinoma inspection and initial treatment. Our department has already treated dozens of calculi and several cases of Urothelial carcinoma with good results in Yilan area.
