President Tsai Ing-wen says the government will promote Taiwan’s quality healthcare to the rest of the world.

Tsai was speaking Thursday at the opening of the first Taiwan Healthcare Expo, held in Taipei. The Expo is set to showcase the latest technical development and medical solutions from over 60 hospitals and medical research institutions.

Tsai said Taiwan takes great pride in its world-class medical technologies. She highlighted a number of achievements by Taiwan’s medical professionals. They include the world’s highest survival rate in living-donor liver transplant and the highest success rate in in vitro fertilization. She also said Taiwan’s medical professionals provide high quality clinical services, including setting up extracorporeal circulation system for patients in critical condition.

Tsai said, “Medical collaboration with other nations is one of the key focuses of our New Southbound policy. Taiwan shares many geographical and cultural characteristics with Southeast Asian countries, and I believe Taiwan can make a significant contribution to Asia’s medical development by promoting exchanges in disease prevention and clinical experience. ”

The New Southbound policy is the administration’s strategy to promote cultural and economic exchanges with countries in South and Southeast Asia, as well as Australia and New Zealand.
