According to the Patient Safety Notification System of the Taiwanese Ministry of Health and Welfare, patient falls accounted for about 25% of the incidence from 2016 to 2020. It was the third high incident in the hospital, which means the fall is the most issue of patient safety. When the fall is occurred, it will bring disadvantages including increasing medical costs, post-fall treatments, length of stay, impacts on the patient and family, and hospital creditability.

Generally, health education and care protocol are used as routine works in the fall prevention. These works much rely on nurse manpower and time-consuming nursing which are less effective in the fall prevention. A real-time detection on position change combining with up-to-date technology could deserve as a promising solution. But, this detection is activated after the patient has fallen or left the bed. Therefore, early-detection is more meaningful measures to the fall prevention.

This lamp using cutting-edge AI computing technology can instantaneously respond to high-risk elderly patients with fall risks. It has a two-stage alarm: one for bed-exit detection, one for fall warning. This alarm system effectively decreases the incidences of bedside falling and fall-induced injuries but increase the reporting rate of bedside falls.
