Poland is undergoing a sweeping transformation in its healthcare system, driven by the global shift toward high efficiency and digitalization. Hospital bed numbers and average inpatient stays are declining, yet bed occupancy rates are reaching new highs—a sign not just of resource redistribution, but of a fundamental redefinition of healthcare delivery and resource allocation. The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated Poland’s push for digitalization and flexible response capabilities in its medical system.
Against this backdrop, Dr. Andrzej Sokolowski and Piotr Gerber, President and Vice President of the Polish Private Hospitals Association (OSSP), led a delegation to the 2024 Healthcare+ Expo Taiwan. Their visit was more than just a trade show tour; it was a targeted mission to explore collaboration, focusing on Taiwan’s acclaimed expertise in smart healthcare and hospital management.

Dr. Andrzej Sokołowski, President (left), and Piotr Gerber, Vice President (right), from the Polish Association of Private Hospitals (OSSP), visited 2024 Healthcare+ Expo Taiwan to explore collaboration opportunities and exchange expertise with Taiwanese partners.
“We’ve heard about the high quality of Taiwanese medical products and the innovative technologies adopted by many hospitals here,” said the Vice President Piotr Gerber, his goal is to seek partnerships with Taiwan’s high-tech companies and foster practical exchanges between hospitals in both countries.
Gerber explained that each delegate had different priorities—some were interested in cross-border business partnerships with Taiwanese firms, while others wanted to learn about hospital operations firsthand. “But we all agree that Taiwan’s high standards in medical devices and technological innovation are impressive, and I wanted to see these developments for myself at the Expo,” he said. The delegation hopes to exchange information on new medical advancements and promote mutual visits and exchanges between Polish and Taiwanese healthcare professionals.
As a hospital executive with an architectural background, Gerber is particularly interested in how design and technology can reduce healthcare costs—such as using automation to address staffing shortages, optimizing internal layouts, and improving hospital logistics. “I saw some very promising technologies at the Expo,” he said.

Vice President Piotr Gerber highlighted the importance of adopting advanced technology and design in healthcare to improve efficiency and patient outcomes during a presentation at the Expo.
The current state and potential of Poland’s healthcare market were also highlighted during the visit. According to Gerber, private hospitals account for about 24% of all hospitals in Poland, known for their diversified services, high quality, advanced technology, and adaptability. In recent years, the sector has attracted increasing international investment and frequent mergers and acquisitions, making Poland a hub for healthcare innovation in Europe.

Delegations from the Polish Association of Private Hospitals (OSSP) and other countries' industry associations gained firsthand insights into the latest medical and healthcare advancements displaying at the Healthcare+ Expo Taiwan.
Founded in 2002, the Polish Private Hospitals Association now counts around 120 member institutions and has been a member of the European Union of Private Hospitals since 2004, connecting over 5,000 hospitals across Europe. As a key node linking European healthcare resources, the association is now turning its attention to Taiwan, inviting Taiwanese medical institutions, tech companies, and professionals to participate in Polish medical conferences and industry exchanges, and to help build a stronger network for healthcare innovation.
Poland’s ongoing digital transformation, backed by robust government support and significant investments in HealthTech, positions the country as an emerging leader in digital medicine in Europe. The association’s visit to Taiwan signals a new phase of international collaboration, aiming to leverage Taiwan’s strengths in MedTech and hospital management to further enhance Poland’s healthcare system.
