Enterprise Ireland Targets Digital Health and AI Collaboration Opportunities in Taiwan

2025-11-13

The 9th Healthcare Expo Taiwan will be held at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1 from December 4th to 7th, expecting nearly 40 overseas industry associations to visit Taiwan in search of collaboration opportunities with Taiwan’s medical and biotechnology sectors. Ahead of the event, the organizers have launched a special “International Associations Interview Series,” featuring first-time visiting representatives who share their perspectives on Taiwan’s market potential and cooperation opportunities, helping domestic companies prepare for early business matchmaking.

Medical Device Industry Accounts for Nearly 10% of Ireland’s Exports—Taiwan as a Strategic Collaboration Hub

In this feature, the Expo interviewed Luke Greene, the Enterprise Ireland representative based in Beijing overseeing the medical technology sector across Greater China. Greene highlighted that medical devices are one of Ireland’s important industries, employing approximately 50,000 professionals and accounting for about 8% of national exports.

He noted that Enterprise Ireland’s participation this year aims to identify potential Taiwanese partners for cooperation in smart healthcare, AI, and medical R&D.

Founded in 1998, Enterprise Ireland is the Irish government agency responsible for supporting Irish enterprises in global expansion. It provides funding, business consulting, R&D support, and export development assistance. The agency currently represents over 4,000 member companies, spanning medical technology, AI, and innovation-driven startups — including Aerogen, Equal1, HaloCare, ICON, and Fexco.

Focusing on AI and Telehealth—Connecting with Taiwan’s Innovative Ecosystem

Greene emphasized that his visit this time focuses on digital health, medical devices, and diagnostic technologies, with the goal of engaging leading Taiwanese innovators. He noted: Taiwan’s leadership in ICT and semiconductors makes it a strong partner for Ireland. The integration of these strengths into AI-driven and telemedicine solutions demonstrates tremendous collaboration potential.

Combining Taiwan’s Manufacturing Strength with Ireland’s R&D Expertise

According to Greene, Enterprise Ireland serves as a bridge for connecting Irish companies seeking export or joint R&D opportunities with Taiwanese firms. He stated that Taiwan’s global competitiveness in manufacturing and innovation offers significant synergies. Partnerships can take the form of contract R&D, co-development projects, or joint ventures, enabling both sides to enhance product quality and market competitiveness while expanding together into global markets.

Reassessing Ireland–Taiwan Collaboration Potential

Greene also observed that compared to China and Hong Kong, Taiwan offers clear advantages in terms of healthcare infrastructure, innovation policies, and regulatory transparency. During this visit, Enterprise Ireland plans to re-evaluate Taiwan’s cooperation opportunities, especially in AI healthcare, digital health, and diagnostic technologies, with the goal of fostering deeper bilateral collaboration and industrial exchange between Ireland and Taiwan.
