MPT0E028 is an HDAC inhibitor that target histone deacetylase, which is known to influence epigenetic control of gene expression. HDACs are emerging as new targets for drug development, particularly for cancer and inflammatory diseases. MPT0E028 was approved by US FDA and Taiwan TFDA for Investigational New Drug (IND) application for the advanced solid tumors in 2014. The expected phase II indications will be rectal cancer combined with radiation therapy in US/EU/Asia, which will start in 2020. According to medical doctor’s observation, fibrosis in one colon cancer patient was regressed, indicating another therapeutic possibility for MPT0E028 in anti-fibrosis. Indeed, MPT0E028 was also developed as a therapeutic agent for IPF in preclinical stage (planning for respiratory and CNS safety pharmacology, and long-term GLP toxicity study). The clinical development of IPF could be facilitated based on our cancer phase 1 study. The patents have been issued in the US, Taiwan, Canada, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Israel, New Zealand, Japan, Mexico, Russian, China, Korea, Europe and India.
