Advantages of endoscopic fusion surgery over traditional forms of surgery, or even minimal invasive fusion surgery, include the ability of the endoscope to visualize different angles under higher levels of magnification, ensuring the complete removal of the intervertebral disc and endplate preparation for the subsequent fusion procedure. Through a surgical wound of only 18 mm, endoscopic fusion surgery is able to implant the same cage and pedicle screws that are implanted in traditional spine surgery. With the use of endoscope in spine surgery, the application of endoscope has broadened to include fusion surgery for further clinical benefits.

Shuang-Ho Hospital was opened on July 1, 2008, and it was commissioned by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and was the first Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) hospital in Taiwan, with a total of nearly 1,600 beds.
